About.

My dad was a career military man, so I was born on an Army base in Augusta, Georgia. Growing up I spent summers on my grandparents farm in Louisiana, and so I will forever have a deep love for that part of the country. Following my enlistment in the Navy, and two deployments to Vietnam, I returned to the Flint Hills of Kansas and have been here ever since. I guess you could say my first true appreciation for music hit me the first time I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. The emotion and enthusiasm of the audience on that small black and white television was a real eye opener for me.

I began writing songs as a teenager and learned to play guitar. Over time I matured as a writer and it was my love for a good story that morphed me into a country genre songwriter. I have always enjoyed reading articles about other songwriters and the stories behind some of my favorite songs. One of my biggest influences was a Johnny Cash quote of him saying he used the "KISS" method of writing. An acronym for "Keep It Simple Stupid". I thought to myself that sounds easy enough to do, but was I ever WRONG! I have learned that writing a song that comes across as both conversational and uncomplicated is not as easy as one would think. After several hundred learning songs, and the transition from spiral bound notebooks to a macbook, I honed my writing skills and learned to draw from everyday life experiences.
